The Department of History at Colorado State University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History with a specialization in Social Studies Teaching/History Education beginning August 16, 2024. While the research field is open, we seek candidates with a teaching focus on world/non-U.S. history (including pedagogy of world/non-US history) who are committed to equity-driven research, teaching, and/or service. The successful candidate will be appointed untenured and at the rank of assistant professor.
Responsibilities include:
Teach EDUC 465 Methods and Materials in Social Studies Teaching and HIST 477 Teaching History
Teach one of the department’s lower-division surveys of non-U.S. history (world, Asian, Islamic or European history, modern or pre-modern)
Teach upper-division undergraduate and occasional graduate history courses in the candidate’s field of specialization
Serve as a liaison to CSU’s School of Education/Center for Educator Preparation
Advise and mentor History majors in the social studies teaching licensure concentration
Support the development and growth of the department’s social studies teaching program
Meet research and publication requirements for tenure and promotion
Maintain an equity-driven focus in research, teaching, and/or service

Required Job Qualifications
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in History or closely related field such as Education, Social Studies Education, or Teaching of Social Studies at the time of appointment
Knowledge of teaching and/or at least one year of experience teaching world/non-U.S. history (teaching experience may include student teaching, internship, graduate teaching assistantship, or similar experience)
At least one year of experience teaching in secondary schools (teaching experience may include student teaching, internship, or similar experience)
Educational background, pedagogical experience, and/or scholarship that addresses underrepresented, disadvantaged, or minoritized populations
Demonstrated record of ongoing research and/or publication in candidate’s area of specialization
Preferred Job Qualifications
At least one year of experience teaching history or social studies in secondary schools (teaching experience may include student teaching, internship, or similar experience)
At least one year experience in teacher education/mentorship
Demonstrated ability to teach a lower-division survey of modern or pre-modern world history
